HANS HASS -- A Life of Exploration:
by Michael Jung
Copyright 1994
VERLAG STEPHANIE NAGLSCHMID
ISBN: 3-927913-63-4
"Michael Jung has succeeded in looking beyond the heroic statue of the famous diver Hans Hass
and making
the man emerge from behind the legend. The urge to explore has always been a vital part of
his life,
the development of diving equipment was merely a means to an end: to go where no-one had been
before and to take pictures
that only the present generation considers normal. His interests then shifted from
diving to the Energon theory,
something many veteran divers find hard to accept. Michael Jung has an explanation for this
and demonstrates that Hans Hass
applies the knowledge he has gained underwater to the wider world above. That also explains
the book's subtitle
"A Life of Exploration". This biography is far from being the umpteenth rehash of old diving
legends;
it is a well-written that, despite the author's evident liking for the subject, does not indul
ge in hero-worship"
tauchen-Magazine 5/94, Hamburg
"With great insight and expertise the author has written a well-documented book which brings the
life and achievements
of Hans Hass close to the reader. On 336 pages one can relive not only the beginnings of the sport,of diving but also the heights
and depths in the life of a great man. This book appears on the occasion of the Hans Hass 75th birthday and is a well-deserved tribute
to a man who has made great contributions not only to diving but also to the development of a more philosophically orientated approach
to evolutionary biology. A masterly and highly informative biography." De Sporttaucher, 3/94, Walldorf
